Leather sector cries for policy support to expedite exports

The government has set the leather export target amounting to US$919.63 million in the first ten months (July to April) of the current fiscal 2018-19 but country fetched only $837.07 million. The leather export declined by 8.98 percent from the target. On the other hand, leather export was $916.74 million during the corresponding period of the last fiscal 2017-18. In this calculation, leather export declined by 8.69 percent. However, the government has set the export earnings target worth $ 1.12 billion for the current fiscal 2018-19. Country received $1.12 billion in 2013-14, followed by $1.13 billion in 2014-15, $1.16 billion in 2015-16, $1.23 billion in 2016-17 and $1.08 billion in 2017-18, according to the latest data of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
